Stocard // what now
Stocard is gone. Your loyalty cards don't have to be.
Klarna retired the Stocard app and moved loyalty cards into its payments app. If you would rather not open a finance account to show a barcode, Loyal puts every card straight into Apple Wallet instead.
What actually happened
Klarna acquired Stocard in 2021. The standalone Stocard app was later retired, and loyalty cards were folded into the main Klarna app. Klarna is a payments and buy-now-pay-later company, so the replacement is a financial app that wants an account before it will show you a barcode.
For a lot of people that is the whole problem. Stocard worked because it was small and asked for nothing.
Loyal compared to using the Klarna app
| Loyal | Klarna app | |
|---|---|---|
| Account required | No account at all | Yes, a Klarna account |
| Apple Wallet passes | Every card, one tap | Not the same thing |
| Apple Watch | Favourites sync to the wrist | No loyalty-card Watch app |
| What it is | A card wallet, nothing else | A payments and BNPL app |
| Tracking | No analytics, no ad SDKs | A financial account |
| Cost | 99p once | Free |
Loyal costs money precisely because there is no data business behind it. That is the trade, stated plainly.
Moving your cards across
There is no automatic import, because the old app is gone and nobody can read its data. It takes about a minute a card, and you only do it once.
- Open the card so its barcode is on screen, and take a screenshot.
- In Loyal, choose to import from a photo and pick that screenshot. Loyal reads the barcode out of the image.
- No screenshot? Scan the physical card, or type the number printed under the barcode and Loyal draws the code for you.
- Tap Add to Apple Wallet, and mark it a favourite to send it to your Apple Watch.
Common questions
Does it work offline?
Your cards live on the device and open without a connection. The one network request happens when you add a card to Apple Wallet, and it carries only anonymous file checksums, never your card number.
Which barcodes does it read?
QR, Code 128, Aztec, EAN-13, PDF417 and Code 39 — which covers the supermarket and high-street cards most people carry.
What happens if I delete the app?
Your cards go with it, because there is no cloud copy. Passes you already added to Apple Wallet stay in Wallet.
Loyal is an independent app from Distyll. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Stocard or Klarna. Product names are used only to describe what changed. Details above reflect the position as of August 2026.
